Halyna Schyyan (geboren 1980) studierte 1996 bis 2001 an der Nationalen Iwan-Franko-Universität Lviv klassische Philologie.
Lebt und arbeitet als Schriftstellerin, Drehbuchautorin und Ăśbersetzerin in Lviv.

2010 – as a representative of Lviv Book Forum visited programme of British Council Bookcase in the frames of Edinburg literature festival.

2011 – coordinated “Poetic residence” of British and Ukrainian poets Sophie Cooke, Kona Macphee, Halyna Kruk, Ostap Slyvynskyy. The authors worked in tandems and translated each other’s works. The outcomes were presented during Lviv Literature Festival.

2012 – translated and published a novel of Booker Prize winning author DBC Pierre “Lights out in Wonderland”. Created an art project based on it and registered trade mark «Batrachomyomachia» DBC Pierre became special guest of Lviv Literature Festival. The project had many positive reviews and was presented during Kyiv Book Arsenal as well as in the different cities all over Ukraine.

2014 – debuted with a novel “Hunt, Doctor, Hunt!”. The book was long listed for BBC Ukraine Book of the Year award.

2015 – contributed to short stories collections “Volunteers”, Guide Book by “Jizdets”. Conducted literary excursion and creative writing course “Short story over the weekend”. Participated in Zaporizhzhia Book Fair.

2016 – participated in Ukrainian literature reading in Paris, Intermezzo Festival in Vinnytsya. Contributed with poetry for exhibition of modern Ukrainian art in Paris. Is going to take part in Month of Authors’ readings (Lviv); Kikinda Short Festival (Serbia); six weeks writers’ residence, literature events and discussions in Graz. Takes part in promotion of “Lviv Unesco City of Literature”. Wrote for collections of prose “City that inspires” and “This is Lviv”. Took part in the month of author’s readings (Lviv).

October 2016 – Conrad Festival, Krakow

Writes for “Harpers Bazar”magazine, “Prosto Neba” and the web-site of “L'Officiel Ukraine”.
